So you've made a decision to make the plunge and buy a new high-def TV. Perhaps you have decided to replace an old tube television thanks to the switch to over-air digital TV, or you got a new satellite dish and want to take a look at the HD programming. Or maybe you're replacing an older HDTV with something newer, bigger, or better. After doing all of your homework, you have decided that a Panasonic Viera TV is the right model for you.The decision, however, doesn't stop there. What size Panasonic Viera TV do you need? Did you need a plasma screen or an LCD? Did you desire to pay for the top-of-the-line resolution, or will a lower resolution do? These are some things to consider when deciding which Television to buy:

What size of Television do I buy?

The HD television experience is all about the sharpest, clearest picture you've ever seen on your TV. The dimensions of Television you wish to buy should rely on the space you have available and, just as importantly, how far you'll be sitting from the screen. The Television you pick should be sized for your viewing distance - a screen too little or too giant for that distance loses much of the effect. To choose the ideal viewing dimensions for your room, measure the distance in inches from your eyes to where the screen will be, and divide by 2. Take that same distance and divide by 3. The result you get for each calculation is the range of Television you should purchase for your room. (For example, if your viewing distance is 90 inches, your Television should be between thirty inches and forty five inches (90/3 = thirty, and 90/2 = 45).

720p or 1080p?

You potentially have seen this numbers discussed in descriptions of televisions , but if you don't know what it implies, these numbers have to do with the resolution or picture definition of the television . 720p Televisions have 720 horizontal scan lines of display resolution, which interprets into about 1,000,000 pixels per frame. 1080p televisions have, needless to say, 1080 scan lines, which interprets into about 2,000,000 pixels per frame. The 1080p picture is clearer, but you're going to pay more for that experience.Whether that experience is worth it to you will depend upon what categories of programs you'll be watching and whether you feel the top-of-the-line picture is what you're after. You will also need to consider your programming sources - if you're going to watch a lot of Blu-Ray films, then consider 1080p, as that format is employed for those disks. If you're going to be dependent on broadcast HDTV, though, maybe 720p is satisfactory, as everyday programs are sent in 720p or 1080i ( and not 1080p ) .

Do I Buy LCD or Plasma?

Another query you can have to ask yourself is whether you would like a LCD (or liquid crystal display) set or a plasma set. Both kinds of televisions are well-regarded for their picture quality and have their benefits, but they also have their downsides too.The plasma television is generally highly regarded for its picture definition -- fantastic contrast and black levels, effortless motion, and rich colours - but it tends to pick up reflections from room lights and daylight rather simply. Some earlier plasma models inclined to be afflicted by images permanently burning into the screen too. LCD televisions don't have that burn problem - they also tend to be lighter and use less energy than a similar plasma television Many people complain, though, that the LCD picture can be less natural ( and more like a film ) than the plasma TV.Whatever features you choose, you'll finally need to discover a place to compare, browse, read reviews, and purchase the Panasonic Viera TV that is best for you. That part is simpler than you suspect.

Read My Review Before You Buy The Samsung LN46B650 by Sam Willis

Welcome to my personal review of the Samsung LN46B650 LCD TV. I bought my Samsung LN46B650 around 2 weeks ago and must say that I'm absolutely delighted!
What a great piece of technology. With 1080p high definition wide-screen resolution and 100,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, the images and pictures have truly blown me away!
Other features are Samsung's wide color enhancer 3 technology which is designed to render the colors of images and make them seem more life-like than any other TV has ever done before. There are also lots of great features that will reduce normal problems associated with LCD TVs of the past like image judder and motion blur. The Samsung LN46B650 LCD TV has combated these problems well.
Moreover, with a 4 milliesecond response time, one of the fastest response times available to buy today, images are always sharp and crystal clear. Combine this with Samsung 's auto motion plus frame interpolation technology and a refresh rate of 120 Hz and what can I say apart from money well spent!
I've watched lots of DVDs and Blu-Rays since I got my new Samsung LN46B650 LCD TV and with all these features combined, and the 46 inch screen, this technology is something that I've never seen before. Feels like something from Doctor Who is sitting in my living room!
With me being a bit of an internet nerd (did I give it away?) my favourite feature is that of Internet@TV. This cool and modern attribute of this TV allows you to surf content from websites like YouTube, Yahoo! and Flickr via your remote control. There is a neat little scrollbar at the bottom of your screen that'll help you navigate through all the pages your interested in 'til your heart's content. All you need is a wired or wireless Ethernet connection and you're online!
Another nifty feature is the 2GB flash memory that's included. This comes with cool content like games, entertainment features and even workout routines pre-loaded onto it. You can, of course, change and update the content on it simply by downloading it from Samsung's own website via your Ethernet connection.
Gadgets and technology are my passion, and with 2 USB connection ports on the Samsung LN46B650 LCD TV, I think I'm falling in love. You can upload pictures from your digital camera onto your TV screen (which looks super cool when they're 46 inches wide) or listen you your iPod via the 15 watt speakers and subwoofer. There are 4 HDMI connection ports available also.
All in all I have to say that I love this TV model and I'll be keeping it for a long time. It's been reported as the best 46 inch TV to be released to date by some reviewers and experts, and I have to say that I agree 100%.
In conclusion, I must say that I'm over the moon with my purchase of the great HDTV. I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a top of the line HDTV for their home or business

Philips HDTV Reviews

Philips HDTV Reviews: Saying the Right Things at the Right Time by Charles Nelson
With the recent advances in technology, television has not just remained an avenue for basic entertainment with viewers watching predetermined channels on it. It has grown with time and become comparable to the theaters, which were considered the ultimate in entertainment. You can now watch programs on TV, enjoy the latest DVDs and even connect the camcorder and enjoy the latest digital photos with your friends and family. Philips too is not one to stay behind in this rat race. It has introduced several new models which have the best technology and optimal prices. Philips HDTV reviews are the best sources for information about the latest Philips models. You can read the Philips TV reviews before buying a Philips product.
Welcome the 480i format
Not only Philips, but all the other TV companies followed the same old CRT technology and 480i broadcasting format. The CRT technology was soon succeeded by LCD and Plasma TVs. There are 18 new broadcasting formats now, out of which 5 have prominence. They are 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p formats. 480i creates a standard definition picture in the interlaced format. In this format, 480 lines of information are sent. The odd lines and the even lines are shown in rapid succession so that the viewer can see a continuous picture. Philips HDTV reviews will tell you more about this.
What about the 480p?
In the same way, 480p creates enhanced definition picture which is shown in the progressive format. 480 lines of information are shown but in a single frame at one time. This is better than a standard definition picture because there is no blurring or flickering and the image looks more natural. In the Philips TVs of yesteryear, the sets used to come in 480i and 480p. You could read about the available models in Philips HDTV reviews. These Philips TV reviews also carried information about the other features and specifications.
The crown goes to the HD resolutions
Then comes in focus the high definition resolutions. The images are formed in 1280 x 720 pixels in a progressive format. Most of the television programs are now telecast in this format. In a normal room, the effects are akin to a theater. Many of the latest Philips TVs are available in this format. And the modern day Philips HDTV reviews write all about these models.
Time for the 1080p?
Finally, both the 1080i and 1080p come into the picture. Many of the latest Philips models broadcast in 1080i. 1080p requires a very wide bandwidth, which is not practicable for the TVs of modern times. You can get this format if you watch movies from a Blu-ray disc player. The effect will be tremendous if both happen to be Philips names. Most of the information about the resolution, connectivity, design, black levels and many more things can be learnt by reading Philips HDTV reviews. You can rely on these Philips TV reviews to give you the most unbiased feedbacks. You can definitely buy a Philips TV which will last you for ye

Many would agree that Samsung produces some of the finest shopper LCD Televisions in the market. Here's a fast review of a model from its Touch of Color series, the Samsung LN32B460 32-Inch 720p LCD TV. Like all other models in this series, it's got a hint of dark read in its design. In this model, there's a faint shade of dark red at the bottom frame of the TV. It also has a tiny hint of dark red on is rectangular stand. Whether the red is a positive addition to the design is subject to preference. Personally, I sort of like it as it adds a little edginess to the LCD Televisions design. The Samsung LN32B460 32-Inch 720p LCD TV has a 50'000:1 contrast proportion, which is very good for a LCD TV. This high contrast ration enables the screen to provide sharper and more practical photographs. It also has a 6ms reply time that could be a great improvement from older models. Many LCD Televisions in the market does a very good job at playing pictures but aren't well fitted to playing games. This model has a game mode that increases the velocity of image processing to enhance your gaming experience. The Samsung LN32B460 32-Inch 720p LCD Television includes 2 concealed speakers. The standard of the audio is pretty provoking for a LCD TV. The bass was strong and dialogs were sharp and clear. The audio system is incorporated with STS TruSurround HD technology. Considering its reasonable price ticket, the Samsung LN32B460 32-Inch 720p LCD TV is a good buy if you are planning to get a LCD TV for your bedroom, office and other little spaces. For more reviews and product info, visit Samsung LN32B460 LCD. Top 5 mistakes

Top 5 mistakes you should avoid when buying a new television by Robin Chung
Top 5 mistakes you should avoid when buying a new television
A lot of people are upgrading to new LCD screens lately. This includes computer screens and televisions. Here are 5 things you shouldn't do deciding your next purchase.
5. Quality of design. Some people only look at the display quality when they're getting a new screen. Standing in the shops and reading a few reviews before choosing the screen that has the best display. While this is okay to do I think you should always consider the design too. Remember that you are probably looking at it for 5+ years if it's a television and maybe 3+ years for a computer screen. And if the design is ugly and clumsy then you might want to stay away.
4. Shop impressions for the win. Another thing you shouldn't do is buy a new screen based solely on what you saw at your local electronic store. Because the settings can be set wrong or it can be a movie which the screen just happens to excel in. Some screens are perfect when the movies are slow paced but experience major issues with fast moving images leading to ghosting. So always read a few reviews besides your store experience before buying.
3. Contrast/brightness figures say it all. False! This is where companies try to fool you. They spend lots of money trying to get these figures as high as possible sometimes even compromising true display quality. On top of that every company has their own way of calculating these figures. So they're often not reliable. However you can always take the figures into consideration when you have trouble deciding between several displays.
2. Let the store employees have a say. Try not to listen to store employees about what screen to choose. They're likely not qualified to give you proper advice and often lack the knowledge to even attempt to. They will try to set you up to the most expensive LCD display because they need to sell. You can however ask them to help you or listen what they have to say but take everything they say with a pinch of salt.
1. Limit your choices. We all have our brands. We all have our little preferences when it comes to settings, design and such. But you should never limit your choices on forehand. A lot of people say: well I want a Sony. Before they have even looked at any displays or figures out what they want. You should always be open minded at forehand and let the perfect display introduce itself to you. However after doing some research of course you should slowly make choices what you want from your LCD display. And in this process a lot of LCD screens won't match your needs and wishes. It natural to stop considering curtain LCD's in this process, just don't do it before you start your research.
Normally I would now wrap up this article but I think you should all know a few things you should allow to play a factor in your decision:
Resolution. Full HD is better than HD ready. It simply displays more dots thus a better and more future proof display.
Connectors. Try to get as many HDMI's as possible on your screen. Blu Ray players, HDD recorders, TiVo and other digital television devices will all use HDMI in the future. Speaker quality. Most people are going to use external speakers which are almost always better. But if you are going to use the television speakers then this is something you should consider

Projection HDTV

Projection HDTV - What Technology is Behind Projection HDTV? by Caleb Liu

There are four main components to the Projection HDTV concept - the projector, screen, control panel, and the sound system. Each of these components can be purchased in one easy to install unit or individually. The main part of the set up is the projector. This is where all the system information is entered. There are two methods used to form the screen images. The most common is the LCD panel and the alternative is the reflective where a light is based off of a reflective chip.
Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) is a digital micromirror that works with liquid crystals on silicon to cause the reflections to take place. Both of the methods are collected by the use of a lens. They are enlarged and then displayed on the TV screen. The transmittive and reflective projection in the projector is responsible for this process.
With projection HDTV the screen is very comparative to that found in a movie theatre. The control panel is a built in feature that you can control with the remote. There are core units that you can assess including a home theatre system and the video receiver. If you are using the projection HDTV in a conference room then the core will be the audio and your computer. The projection HDTV speakers offer an advanced sound system that includes Home THX, Dolby 5.1 surround sound, and the Dolby Digital EX. The biggest selling projection HDTV on the market right now is the Samsung Tantus HCL473W. It features a 47" screen, auto focus, a fine pitch screen, and the 1,000 line resolution
